The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has said his prophecy regarding the Super Eagles’ performance at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is being misrepresented by critics.
This follows backlash against the cleric over claims that he predicted Ademola Lookman would not perform well at the tournament, a view some critics said was disproved after Lookman scored the winning goal in Nigeria’s victory over Tanzania.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele clarified that his prophecy was not about the match against Tanzania but about the tournament as a whole.
He alleged that some individuals were deliberately twisting his words for mischievous reasons, stressing that his warning concerning Lookman still stands.
According to him, it is too early to judge the prophecy based on just one match.
“My prophecy about Ademola Lookman in the ongoing AFCON tournament is being misrepresented and misunderstood by mischievous individuals,” he said. “What I said was about the tournament, not just the match against Tanzania. One game cannot determine performance in an entire competition.”
Primate Ayodele urged Nigerians to be patient and allow events to unfold before drawing conclusions.
He added that his intention was not to
run down the team but to offer warnings aimed at helping the Super Eagles succeed.
“I sincerely want Nigeria to win this tournament. It would be my greatest joy to see the team lift the trophy, but that can only happen if advice is listened to,” he said.
