Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has hinted that Mohamed Salah’s recent exclusion from the squad was a direct result of the forward’s own actions. The Brazilian also publicly backed manager Arne Slot, crediting him for guiding the Reds to last season’s Premier League title.
Salah was left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad to face Inter Milan on Tuesday, following his controversial remarks accusing the club of “putting him under the bus.” Slot later confirmed at his pre-match press conference that the Egyptian’s comments were the reason behind his omission.
Speaking on the situation, Alisson told journalist Fabrizio Romano:
“Salah not being available is a consequence of what he did. He’s smart enough to know that.”
Alisson stressed that he and Salah have enjoyed a strong relationship for years and that they would speak privately about the issue.
“I don’t think Mo Salah wanted to disrespect anyone… he just had the freedom to talk how he feels about his own situation,” the goalkeeper said. “I really hope he plays for Liverpool again. But that’s between Mo and the club, not me.”
The Brazilian also reaffirmed his support for Slot:
“Do I back Arne Slot? Of course, yes. The Premier League title last season — looks like everyone takes for granted what we achieved. That should be enough, but we believe in his knowledge, his style of playing.”
Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain as discussions between him and the club continue privately.
