Nigerian music star Burna Boy has set a new global milestone as his ‘I Told Them’ tour has emerged as the highest-grossing tour by an African artist in history.
Data released by a tour monitoring platform revealed that the ‘I Told Them’ tour generated $30.5 million from the sale of 302,801 tickets across 22 shows held in Europe and North America.
“@burnaboy’s ‘I Told Them…’ is officially the highest-grossing tour by any Afrobeat artist in history, with $30.5 million from 302,801 tickets sold in 22 shows,” the platform stated.
In addition to the tour’s overall success, Burna Boy also shattered another record by delivering the highest-grossing single concert ever by an African artist. His performance at the London Stadium on June 29, 2024, pulled in $6.147 million from 58,973 tickets sold as part of the ‘I Told Them… Tour.’
A breakdown of the figures shows that the tour earned $15.19 million from 152,378 tickets sold across 16 shows in North America. In Europe, it generated $15.27 million from 150,423 tickets sold during six shows.
Despite Burna Boy’s historic achievement, American pop star Taylor Swift continues to hold the record for the highest-grossing music tour of all time. Her ‘Eras’ tour reportedly amassed $2 billion in revenue from 149 shows over a 21-month period.
The ‘Eras’ tour surpassed the previous all-time record set by Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, further cementing Swift’s place at the top of global touring history.
