Nigerian content creator and musician Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Efe, has emerged as Africa’s most-followed streamer on Twitch following a highly successful livestream featuring Afrobeats superstar Davido.
Efe overtook fellow Nigerian creator Adesokan Emmanuel, popularly known as Shank Comics, to claim the continental record. The milestone followed a surge in followers after his widely publicised Twitch session with Davido on Wednesday.
Available metrics show that Carter Efe now has over 405,000 followers on Twitch. Shank Comics, who previously held the record set about six months ago, currently has approximately 233,000 followers, according to checks as of Thursday.
Efe’s growth has been particularly remarkable. From about 322,000 followers earlier in the week, he gained an estimated 160,000 new followers within four days, a spike largely attributed to the announcement and execution of the Davido livestream.
The session also delivered multiple milestones. Davido reportedly set a new record for the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa, attracting about 83,000 viewers. He also became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on the platform.
During the livestream, Davido connected Carter Efe with several high-profile figures, including his wife and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, and made a direct call-out to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.
The Afrobeats star also placed a call to Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, whose appearance excited viewers and added a sporting dimension to the broadcast.
The stream took another viral turn when fellow content creator Enzo made a surprise appearance and humorously challenged Carter Efe to an impromptu boxing match to “prove” his loyalty to Davido’s 30BG fan base.
The entire livestream quickly went viral, generating widespread reactions and discussions across social media platforms.
