Afrobeats superstar Davido has identified Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay as the leading artists he believes could eventually be regarded among the greatest in the Nigerian music industry.
The multiple award-winning singer made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on comedian Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream, clips of which have since gone viral across social media platforms.
When asked to name the next potential “GOAT” in the industry, Davido said the trio stand out based on their consistency, impact, and musical output.
“Right now, for me, I say between Asake, Omah Lay, or Rema. If you ask me. I think they’ve done exceptionally well,” he said.
Davido clarified that his comments were focused on male artistes, while also acknowledging the strides made by female stars in the industry.
“Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr, stuff like that. I’m talking about males. Those three, killing it, you know what I’m saying,” he added.
His comments have since sparked conversations among fans and industry observers, with many weighing in on the ongoing debate about the next generation of Nigerian music legends.
