2027: “Even the President, what brought him to the table?” – Gov Makinde opens up on plan to challenge Tinubu

APC slams Makinde over Oyo rising debt profile

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reacted to reports linking him with plans to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The speculation followed the appearance of campaign posters bearing Makinde’s image in parts of Jigawa State, fuelling talk that the two-term governor may be positioning himself for a presidential bid.

Addressing the rumours during a media chat with selected journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday, Makinde said he is qualified to contest for the nation’s highest office.

According to him, his experience as a two-term governor places him in a strong position to seek the presidency, noting that similar credentials paved the way for the current president.

“I am qualified to serve this country at the highest level. I have run Oyo State,” he said.

“Even the president, what brought him to the table? He was governor of Lagos State for two terms. By the end of May 2027, I would have also completed two terms as governor.”

Makinde also highlighted his professional background, stating that he successfully ran a company from a young age, further underscoring his preparedness for national leadership.
