The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reaffirmed its plan to stage a nationwide protest over the worsening state of insecurity across the country.
The National President of the union, Joe Ajaero, made the declaration shortly after a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya. He said the planned protest would demand firm and decisive government action to address insecurity, stressing that the crisis now affects all Nigerians regardless of status or occupation.
Ajaero described banditry and violent crimes as alien to Nigeria’s culture and called for collective condemnation to reverse what he termed a dangerous national narrative. He added that insecurity is crippling the economy and weakening Nigeria’s capacity to attract both local and foreign investment.
Recall that the NLC had earlier announced on December 8 its intention to organise a nationwide protest over the persistent security challenges in the country.
The labour leader also condemned the kidnapping and killing of a school staff member during a recent attack on a school in Kebbi State, as well as the withdrawal of security personnel from the school prior to the incident.
Describing the increasing attacks on schools as alarming, NLC urged the Federal Government to urgently secure all schools, especially those located in remote and vulnerable areas.
