I’ve bragged to US, EU state police’ll not fail in Nigeria – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has expressed strong confidence that Nigeria’s security situation will significantly improve with the establishment of State Police.

The president made this known while addressing governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party’s caucus meeting held on Thursday at the State House in Abuja. Tinubu revealed that he had discussed Nigeria’s security strategy with leaders from the United States and Europe, assuring them that the creation of State Police would enhance internal security across the country.

According to Tinubu, he confidently told international leaders that Nigeria would pass legislation enabling State Police, stressing that he believes the policy will succeed with the backing of APC governors.

“I had a very long discussion with the US and European leaders. I was bragging to them that definitely we will pass a state police to improve security,” the president said.

“They asked me if I’m confident, and I said, ‘Yes, I have a party to depend on. I have a party that will make it happen. And if at this level we fail, God forbid, we will not fail.’”

Tinubu noted that he is relying on APC-controlled states to ensure the effective implementation of State Police once it is established.

His remarks come amid renewed security concerns following recent kidnappings in parts of Kwara and Niger States, where gunmen believed to be bandits reportedly abducted worshippers during a church service and students from a school, underscoring the urgency of security reforms in the country.
