Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has conceded that his side is not consistent enough at the moment to be considered genuine Premier League title contenders.
Guardiola, who has enjoyed multiple title-winning campaigns in England, said league leaders Arsenal remain the most stable team in the competition so far.
Arsenal’s 2–1 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday narrowed their lead at the top to just two points, after City cruised to a 3–0 victory over Sunderland. The defeat marked only the Gunners’ second league loss of the season.
Speaking after City’s win, Guardiola stressed the importance of sustained performance levels, insisting that consistency—not occasional brilliance—is what ultimately delivers titles.
“I have experience of winning the Premier League titles, it’s to be consistent,” Guardiola told reporters.
“It’s the consistency of how much you perform, how much you grow during the year. We’ve had good moments but always in the second half… we are not consistent for 90 minutes.”
Manchester City now shift their attention to a crucial Champions League clash against Real Madrid in midweek.
