Meghan Markle has reportedly reached out to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, after news emerged that he underwent a leg amputation during surgery in the Philippines.
A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex confirmed that she made an attempt to reconnect, though it is still unclear whether her message reached him.
Their strained relationship dates back to the period leading up to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, when intense media scrutiny and a staged-photo controversy caused a major fallout. Thomas ultimately missed the ceremony due to health complications, and communication between the two has remained minimal ever since.
Thomas has also never met Meghan Markle and Harry’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
While Thomas has frequently spoken publicly about their rift over the years, Meghan’s recent outreach marks a rare gesture from the Duchess—one prompted by serious concern over her father’s health.
