Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about one of the most disturbing experiences she faced at the start of her acting career.
In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, the actress revealed that, as a newcomer, she was sometimes handed bizarre and inappropriate scripts that challenged her limits.
The most shocking offer, she said, involved a role in which she was expected to sleep with a dog.
“Despite being new to the industry, I was given a script that required me to sleep with a dog,” Nkechi recalled. “I refused because I knew starting my career like that would be disastrous. Imagine—my very first movie, and that’s the scene I’m known for. It doesn’t make sense.”
The actress explained that taking such a role would have harmed her image and defined her brand negatively. “The first impression you give shapes how people see you. I couldn’t let my career start with something so inappropriate,” she added.
Nkechi also revealed that after she turned down the role, several other young actresses eagerly took it. However, she noted that none of them achieved mainstream success in Nollywood.
Her candid revelation illuminates the challenges young actors face in the industry and the difficult decisions they must make to protect their careers and personal brands.
