Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has weighed in on the debate around mediocrity in the music industry, insisting that there is no such thing as a “wack” artiste.
Speaking in a video, the African Queen crooner argued that every song is created to evoke emotions and connect with a specific audience, noting that success in music is largely driven by marketing and promotion rather than talent alone.
According to 2Baba, many artists often labeled as “wack” end up being more commercially successful because they understand the business side of music.
“Every music is tailor-made to evoke an emotion and create a spirit. There is nothing like a wack artiste,” 2Baba said.
“That’s why many so-called wack artists are more bankable than talented ones. It’s not just about the art; it’s about how the art is marketed.”
He added that no song can appeal to everyone, stressing that audience acceptance depends on resonance, promotion, and strategic branding.
“No matter how sweet your music is, there’s no music everybody will like. It all comes down to marketing, promotion, and the business. Only those who resonate with your music will like it naturally,” he said.
