President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended Christmas greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to religious freedom and peaceful coexistence.
In a message shared on X, the president thanked God for the opportunity to serve and prayed for unity and peace among Nigerians of different religious beliefs.
“On this Holy day, I wish all Christians in Nigeria and around the world a Merry Christmas. I thank God for the opportunity to serve as the leader of our great country, and I pray for peace in our land, especially between individuals of differing religious beliefs,” Tinubu wrote.
He added, “I stand committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect Christians, Muslims, and all Nigerians from violence.”
The president tagged several accounts in the post, including that of former United States president Donald Trump.
The message comes amid renewed international attention on Nigeria’s security situation and religious tensions, following recent claims by Trump alleging a “Christian genocide” in the country—an assertion Nigerian authorities have consistently rejected, insisting that insecurity affects citizens of all faiths.
Tinubu’s post also included excerpts from his 2025 Christmas goodwill message, in which he urged Nigerians to embrace peace, patience, and unity during the festive season.
