Barcelona reclaimed top spot in La Liga on Sunday with a 3–0 victory over Real Oviedo, as goals from Dani Olmo, Raphinha and an acrobatic finish from Lamine Yamal sealed the win.
The result moved Barcelona back to the top of the table, a point clear after Real Madrid had briefly gone ahead following their win over Villarreal on Saturday.
Despite Oviedo arriving bottom of the table with just two victories all season, Barcelona were forced to work hard for the breakthrough. The visitors defended stubbornly in the first half, limiting clear chances and keeping Hansi Flick’s side at bay until after the interval.
Barcelona’s performance before the break was laboured, with passing unusually imprecise and attacking rhythm difficult to establish. Injured midfielder Pedri Gonzalez watched on from the stands as Oviedo threatened on the counter, with Haissem Hassan forcing a long-range save from Joan Garcia.
At the other end, Oviedo goalkeeper Aaron Escandell produced a sharp near-post stop to deny Raphinha shortly before half-time.
The hosts emerged with greater intensity after the restart and were rewarded when Olmo opened the scoring, calmly steering the ball home after sustained pressure from Yamal and Raphinha caused confusion inside the box.
Oviedo’s resistance weakened further on 57 minutes when a poorly weighted back-pass from David Costas allowed Raphinha to race through and delicately lift the ball over Escandell for Barcelona’s second.
The highlight of the match followed soon after, as Yamal wrapped up the win in style. With Olmo’s cross drifting behind him, the teenager produced a stunning sideways scissor-kick to send the ball into the net and bring the partially reopened Camp Nou to life.
A heavy downpour later swept across the stadium, sending some supporters scrambling for cover, and those who stayed witnessed Escandell deny Robert Lewandowski a fourth goal with another fine save.
The victory confirms Barcelona’s return to the summit and underlines their growing momentum in the title race, while Oviedo remain rooted to the bottom despite a spirited defensive display.
