Declan Rice Inspires Arsenal to Comeback Win at Bournemouth to Extend Title Lead

Declan Rice overcame a knee injury scare to lead Arsenal to a crucial 3–2 comeback victory over Bournemouth, extending the Gunners’ advantage at the top of the Premier League table.

The England midfielder, who missed Tuesday’s emphatic 4–1 win over Aston Villa due to knee swelling, returned to the starting lineup and delivered a match-winning performance, scoring twice as Mikel Arteta’s side strengthened their grip on the title race.

Arsenal suffered an early setback after a rare mistake from Gabriel Magalhães gifted Bournemouth the opening goal in the 10th minute. The Brazilian defender misjudged a cross-field pass intended for Jurrien Timber, allowing Evanilson to pounce and slot past David Raya for his first home goal of the season.

Any hopes of capitalising on that early breakthrough were short-lived, however, as Gabriel redeemed himself six minutes later. The centre-back reacted quickest to a deflected Noni Madueke cross, slamming home to restore parity and notch his 20th Premier League goal since joining Arsenal in 2020 — more than any other defender in that period.

Rice, increasingly influential in a more advanced role this season, put the visitors ahead shortly after the hour mark. Martin Ødegaard picked him out perfectly on the edge of the box, and the midfielder calmly guided his finish beyond the goalkeeper.

Bukayo Saka, introduced from the bench, then played a decisive role by supplying the cut-back that allowed Rice to complete his brace and give Arsenal breathing space.

Bournemouth refused to go quietly, with Eli Kroupi igniting a nervy finale after unleashing a stunning long-range strike to reduce the deficit. Despite the late pressure, Arsenal showed composure and control to see out the closing stages.

The victory moves Arsenal six points clear at the top of the table and seven ahead of Manchester City, who host managerless Chelsea in their game in hand on Sunday.

For Bournemouth, the defeat extends their winless run to 11 matches, dating back to October 26. Nevertheless, Andoni Iraola’s side remain one of the league’s more dangerous attacking teams, with only five clubs scoring more Premier League goals this season.

Arsenal’s latest triumph represents another significant step toward ending their 22-year wait for a Premier League title.
