Jessie J has cancelled her scheduled concert in Toronto, Canada, citing safety concerns caused by extreme winter weather conditions in the region.
The singer was set to perform at Danforth Music Hall on Sunday night but made the last-minute decision to pull out after arriving at the venue and assessing the situation firsthand. Toronto has been hit by a powerful winter storm, bringing record snowfall and temperatures dropping as low as –14°C.
In a statement shared on Instagram, the Price Tag hitmaker explained that she personally decided to cancel the show, prioritising the safety of her fans.
“I don’t feel comfortable having people risk their safety for the show,” Jessie wrote. “I understand some people will be upset and some, I’m sure, will be relieved. However, I feel this is the right decision. You will get a full refund for your tickets.”
She added that travelling to the venue herself was difficult and expressed concern about fans trying to get home in worsening conditions.
“I am currently standing in the venue and getting here wasn’t safe and the snow is only getting worse. I just can’t imagine how people would get home in the dark with the weather like this,” she said.
The 37-year-old asked fans to respect her decision, even if they disagreed, stressing that safety must always come first.
The cancellation comes amid Jessie J’s return to touring following health challenges. The singer previously rescheduled her North American tour after undergoing further treatment for breast cancer. She had surgery in June last year after her diagnosis, with subsequent tests confirming that the disease had not spread.
Jessie J kicked off the tour in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 21 and is scheduled to resume performances in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday night. The tour will also stop in New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver and Las Vegas, before concluding in Los Angeles on February 6.
Following the North American leg, the singer is set to embark on a U.K. and European tour in April.
