The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has officially rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yusuf defected to the ruling party on Monday at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House, marking his formal return to the APC after leaving the party in the buildup to the 2023 general election.
He was received into the party by former APC National Chairman and ex-Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje; the Deputy President of the Senate and Senator representing Kano South, Barau Jibrin; the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, alongside other senior party leaders.
Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf said his decision to rejoin the APC was driven by the need to align more closely with the Federal Government, led by Bola Tinubu, in order to accelerate development in Kano State.
According to him, the move would strengthen cooperation between the state and the centre, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, security, and economic development.
Yusuf was elected governor in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). In recent weeks, he formally resigned from the party along with several members of the Kano State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
His return to the APC marks a significant political shift in Kano State and is expected to have implications for party dynamics ahead of future elections.
