Kiefer Sutherland Arrested Over Alleged Assault on Ride-Share Driver in Hollywood

British-Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested following an alleged assault on a ride-share driver in Hollywood.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 12. Police said Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver and made criminal threats. Authorities added that the driver was not injured.

BBC News reports that the 24 star was released after posting a $50,000 (£37,000) bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2.

This is not Sutherland’s first run-in with the law. In September 2007, he was arrested for drunk driving after failing a field sobriety test. He later pleaded no contest to a DUI charge and was sentenced to 48 days in jail.

Reflecting on that experience in a 2022 interview with NME, Sutherland said, “This isn’t like prison, this is kind of a warehouse. In a way, prison is a refined experience compared to county jail.”

Sutherland rose to prominence with film roles in The Lost Boys, Young Guns and Flatliners, before achieving global fame as Jack Bauer in the hit TV series 24, which ran from 2001 to 2010 and was revived in 2014. His performance earned him both an Emmy and a Golden Globe. He later starred in the political drama Designated Survivor from 2016 to 2019.

The actor is the son of late Hollywood legend Donald Sutherland, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 88.
