The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to resume its Total, Indefinite and Complete Strike (TICS 2.0) from January 12, 2026, over the Federal Government’s failure to implement agreed terms in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The decision was contained in a statement issued on X and signed by NARD President, Dr Mohammad Suleiman, following an Emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Friday.
According to the association, the industrial action, tagged “No Implementation, No Going Back,” will commence at 12:00 a.m. on January 12 unless the government addresses its outstanding demands.
NARD warned that the strike could lead to a major disruption of medical services nationwide if the issues remain unresolved.
The NEC also directed presidents of all 91 NARD centres across the country to hold congress meetings and engage the media, with 91 press conferences scheduled within a week to draw attention to doctors’ welfare concerns.
In addition, centre-based protests are planned to run from January 12 to 16, while regional and national demonstrations may follow if the government fails to respond.
Key demands include the reinstatement of five resident doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja; payment of promotion and salary arrears; and full implementation of the professional allowance table, including arrears captured in the 2026 budget.
Other issues raised involve specialist and house officers’ allowances, timely pay advisories, membership certification after examinations, locum and work-hour regulations, and the completion of the Collective Bargaining Agreement process.
“The NOC appreciates the guidance of NEC and assures all members of full commitment to these resolutions,” the statement said, adding that engagements would be intensified in the coming days.
