Stefon Diggs’ ongoing legal case will not interfere with the New England Patriots’ postseason campaign, as his court appearance has been rescheduled until after the NFL season’s biggest game.
According to TMZ Sports, Diggs’ arraignment over assault-related charges tied to an alleged altercation with his former private chef has been moved from January 23 to February 13 — five days after the Super Bowl. The original date would have fallen just two days before the AFC Championship game, had the Patriots advanced that far.
With the new schedule, Diggs is now free to focus entirely on football as the Patriots continue their playoff push. The team currently sits atop the AFC East and is set to face the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round on Sunday, January 11. If New England makes a deep run, Diggs will be able to complete the season before turning his full attention to the legal proceedings.
The charges stem from an incident allegedly occurring on December 2 at Diggs’ Massachusetts home. His former private chef accused the wide receiver of physically assaulting her during a dispute over compensation. Authorities subsequently charged Diggs with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery.
Diggs has denied the allegations through his legal team. The New England Patriots also released a statement expressing support for the player while confirming their cooperation with both league and legal authorities. Additionally, Stefon Diggs’ girlfriend, Cardi B, publicly defended him online, dismissing the claims as false.
With the arraignment now scheduled for mid-February, Stefon Diggs’ legal battle and the Patriots’ postseason ambitions will proceed on separate timelines — at least for now.
