President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, the Presidency has announced.
The disclosure was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who said the visit is aimed at strengthening the long-standing cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye while opening new fronts of cooperation.
According to the Presidency, the visit will focus on expanding collaboration in key sectors including security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation. It follows the official visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğanto Nigeria in October 2021.
During the trip, President Tinubu and Turkish authorities are expected to hold high-level political and diplomatic engagements centred on shared interests in finance, communication, trade, and investment.
The agenda also includes the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and protocol matters.
A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will equally be held, bringing together investors from both countries to explore opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.
Members of President Tinubu’s entourage include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.
Other officials on the delegation are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
