A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has disclosed that he does not own any house or landed property in Abuja, saying the decision is deliberate and aimed at avoiding unnecessary stress.
Obi made the revelation while speaking at a coffee hangout with KayhikersClub in Abuja, where he shared personal insights on his lifestyle and approach to public service.
“I don’t have a house in Abuja, I don’t have a land and I’m not preparing to have because I don’t need it,” Obi said. According to him, accumulating material possessions often comes with avoidable pressure and distractions. He added that his simple lifestyle has contributed to his good health over the years.
Reflecting on his time in public and corporate service, Obi recounted how he declined official perks while serving as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He said he rejected offers of official vehicles, accommodation allowances, and sitting allowances, insisting he only wanted to attend meetings when required.
“You can go and ask whether when Peter Obi was the chairman, did he collect anything?” he stated.
Peter Obi also shared a similar experience from his tenure as Chairman of Fidelity Bank, where he said he turned down luxury vehicles he was entitled to, maintaining that he already had everything he needed.
“I have enough. I don’t need to do giveaways, but what I need, I have,” Obi concluded, reaffirming his stance on modest living and contentment.
