Nollywood actress Zainab Bakare has addressed online criticism surrounding her emotional reaction at the service of songs held in honour of her late colleague, Allwell Ademola.

Videos from the memorial, which took place on Thursday, circulated widely on social media, prompting some users to accuse Bakare of exaggerating her grief and performing for the camera.

Responding via her Instagram page, Bakare dismissed the allegations, describing them as insensitive and inappropriate during a period of mourning.

“Y’all coming for me and tagging me with your full chest that I was acting for the camera… I will hold till we bury her before I give you a taste of your medicine,” she wrote.

The actress further condemned the remarks, accusing critics of exploiting a moment of loss to attack others.

“Koni da fun yin!!! Y’all are using the death of a loved one to dish out your oriburuku. We shall see!!!” she added.

Allwell Ademola was laid to rest on Friday, January 9, at Atan Cemetery, Yaba, Lagos State, with family members, friends, and colleagues from the film industry in attendance.

Bakare was present at the burial and other related memorial activities alongside several Nollywood actors and actresses.

The late actress and Bakare shared a professional relationship over the years. Bakare appeared in Ademola’s 2017 film False Flag and also co-starred with her in several Yoruba-language productions, including Odere Mi and Kikioré, released on YouTube platforms.

Allwell Ademola passed away on December 27, 2025, at the age of 49. Since her death, colleagues and fans have continued to hold memorial activities in her honour.
