Atletico Madrid have officially unveiled Ademola Lookman as their newest signing, confirming an agreement with Atalanta BC for the transfer of the Nigerian international winger.
Lookman rose to global prominence after scoring a historic hat-trick in Atalanta’s win over Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final in 2024, a performance that sealed the Italian club’s first-ever European title.
In the current campaign, the 27-year-old has registered three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta.
Born in London, Lookman began his professional career at Charlton Athletic before earning a move to Everton FC. He later joined RB Leipzig, with loan spells at Fulham FC and Leicester City, before completing a permanent switch to Atalanta in 2022.
The signing comes as Atletico head coach Diego Simeone looks to bolster his squad following the departure of Giacomo Raspadori to Atalanta and Conor Gallagher’s move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Atletico have also struggled in attack this season, with striker Julian Alvarez failing to score in his last 11 La Liga matches. Lookman’s arrival is expected to add pace, creativity and goal threat as the club looks to revive its attacking output and strengthen its push in domestic and European competitions.
