Nigerian businesswoman Kris Asimoye has shared a personal reflection on why her husband, comedian Bovi Ugboma, advised her not to change her surname after marriage — a decision she says has proven wise with time.
Kris, who shares three children with the entertainer, took to Instagram to share a conversation they had early in their marriage.
According to her, Bovi encouraged her to retain her maiden name, even though she did not fully understand the reasoning behind it at the time.
“When I got married, my husband encouraged me not to change my last name. At the time, I did not fully understand why,” she wrote.
Years later, the entrepreneur says the meaning of that advice has become clear. As she continues to grow professionally, she has come to appreciate the importance of building her identity and brand under her own name.
“Now, building Kris Asimoye as a brand, I understand completely,” she added.
Her post has since sparked conversations online around marriage, identity, and personal branding, with many praising the couple’s progressive outlook and the mutual support they show for each other’s individual growth and ambitions.
