National Assembly Shifts Plenary Resumption to March 5

National Assembly Moves to Create Six New States Across Nigeria’

The National Assembly of Nigeria has postponed the resumption of plenary sittings from February 24 to March 5, 2026.

Both the Nigerian Senate and the House of Representatives of Nigeria had earlier adjourned for two weeks to enable various committees to conduct budget defence sessions for ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), and government parastatals as part of deliberations on the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

In a statement issued on Monday, Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, explained that the extension was necessary to allow committees sufficient time to conclude ongoing budget reviews.

According to the notice, plenary sessions in both chambers will now resume on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Lawmakers were advised to take note of the revised schedule, while the leadership expressed regret over any inconvenience the change may have caused.
