Nollywood actress Regina Chukwu has weighed in on the ongoing industry drama involving filmmakers Kunle Afolayan and Funke Akindele, offering a message of unity and perspective.
The exchange began after Afolayan, speaking at the premiere of his latest movie, said he was not interested in earning ₦1 billion or ₦2 billion at the cinemas if he could not personally make at least ₦10 million from such figures. He also appeared to criticise colleagues who rely on dancing on social media to promote their films.
Although Afolayan did not name anyone directly, his comments came shortly after Funke Akindele’s film reportedly grossed ₦2.4 billion at the Nigerian box office, while Toyin Abraham’s movie crossed the ₦1 billion mark.
Reacting, Funke Akindele publicly rejected any suggestion that she was responsible for Afolayan’s frustrations, warning him not to let jealousy consume him and stating that “the sky is big enough for everyone to fly.” She later doubled down by sharing a video of herself dancing while promoting her record-breaking film.
Amid the back-and-forth, Regina Chukwu took to her Instagram page to repost a message addressing the situation, urging calm and mutual respect within the industry.
“N5 billion
N1 billion
Life is turn by turn
The dancer, the boaster, the comedian.
Everybody will be alright in this industry.
Do the one you can do without shading anyone,” the post read.
Her reaction has resonated with some fans and industry observers, who see it as a reminder that success in Nollywood comes in different forms — and that comparison and subtle jabs only distract from the bigger picture.
