Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has explained why he says he cannot stand former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Speaking during an interview on an X programme titled Nix: Outside the Box, Sowore said his dislike for the former leader stems from events surrounding Obasanjo’s time in office, particularly regarding the state of the education sector.
According to reports by Daily Post, Obasanjo served as Nigeria’s military Head of State before later returning as a civilian president from 1999 to 2007.
In the interview, Sowore said: “I have never been to Aso Rock before. I have never met any President in power before, not even Obasanjo.
“Obasanjo is probably one of the people I can’t even stand because of what we knew about him before we went to the university.
“Part of the reasons we were rushing to the university was that Ali must go, and it was Obasanjo period. It was from that period that he started destroying the education system.
“To come back to the nature of power, I don’t even know how his face looks,” Sowore said.
His remarks have since generated discussion online, particularly among commentators reflecting on the state of Nigeria’s education system during different administrations.
