The men’s draw for the BNP Paribas Open has been released, setting up the possibility of a blockbuster semifinal rematch between Novak Djokovic and world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic, seeded No. 3, is still chasing a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title after finishing runner-up at the Australian Open earlier this year. His Melbourne run ended with a defeat to Alcaraz, who has remained unbeaten so far in 2026.
Alcaraz’s Australian Open triumph made him the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam, and he followed it up with another title in Doha. Arriving at Indian Wells in dominant form, the Spaniard will look to extend his winning streak.
Alcaraz’s Potential Path
Alcaraz’s section of the draw includes Arthur Rinderknech and Valentin Vacherot, with former world No. 2 Casper Ruud projected as his fourth-round opponent.
Djokovic’s Quarter
Djokovic anchors the second quarter of the draw alongside top American Taylor Fritz, the tournament’s No. 7 seed and a former Indian Wells champion.
A potential fourth-round matchup could see Djokovic face defending champion Jack Draper, who claimed his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells last year. Draper has struggled with injuries since that breakthrough, including an arm issue that sidelined him for extended periods, causing him to miss both the US Open and this year’s Australian Open.
Bottom Half: Sinner Looks to Rebound
In the bottom half, No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner will attempt to reset his 2026 season after unexpected defeats in Melbourne and Doha.
Sinner lost his Australian Open title to Djokovic in a five-set semifinal and later suffered another upset against Jakub Mensik at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.
The Italian also missed the 2025 BNP Paribas Open while serving a suspension linked to positive tests for the banned substance Clostebol. As a result, he now has the opportunity to gain ranking points during the upcoming stretch, particularly with Alcaraz holding a lead of more than 3,000 points atop the ATP Tour rankings.
Shelton in Sinner’s Section
Sinner’s projected quarterfinal opponent is the No. 8 seed, Ben Shelton. The 23-year-old American is aiming to bounce back after a quarterfinal loss to Sinner at the Australian Open.
Shelton has shown strong form on the Masters 1000 stage, notably winning the National Bank Open last summer. He heads into Indian Wells with momentum after claiming the ATX Open title in Dallas.
With top players spread across a competitive draw, the stage is set for a high-stakes tournament in “Tennis Paradise,” with fans already eyeing a potential Alcaraz–Djokovic semifinal showdown.
