Ghana Football Association Sacks Coach Otto Addo Ahead of 2026 World Cup

The Ghana Football Association has dismissed head coach Otto Addo less than three months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decision was confirmed in a statement released in the early hours of Tuesday, shortly after Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to the Germany national football team in an international friendly at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.

The loss marked the Black Stars’ fourth consecutive defeat, following a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria national football teamthe previous week.

A statement from the association confirmed that Addo had been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately,” the statement read.

“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.

“The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”

Addo, who took charge in 2024, recorded eight wins in 22 matches during his tenure.

Looking ahead, Ghana national football team have been drawn in Group L for the tournament, where they will face Croatia national football team, Panama national football team, and England national football team in North America.
