“My Ex-Husband Begged Me for Another Child” — Shaffy Bello Opens Up on Why She Tied Her Tubes

I Divorced my Husband at the age of 45, because of Nollywood Fame - Actress Shaffy Bello

Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has opened up about a deeply personal decision she made decades ago regarding childbirth.

The celebrated actress revealed that she underwent a medical procedure to stop having more children, explaining that she deliberately chose to limit the size of her family.

Bello made the revelation while discussing motherhood on her YouTube platform, Shaffy Bello TV.

According to the actress, she decided to tie her fallopian tubes about 26 years ago because she was certain she did not want to have many children.

She explained that the decision came even though her former husband wanted them to expand their family.

“My ex-husband had to beg for me to have another one. I didn’t want a lot of children. I wanted to stop,” she said.

The actress further explained that the medical procedure involved doctors accessing her abdomen through her navel before tying her fallopian tubes, which permanently prevented her from conceiving again.

“So they went through my navel, went in there, did what they needed to do, and they tied it up. That was it. They closed my eggs,” Bello explained.

The procedure she referred to is known medically as Tubal ligation, a form of permanent birth control that blocks or seals the fallopian tubes to stop eggs from reaching the uterus.

Bello said she had always been certain about the kind of family life she wanted and did not feel the need to have many children.

Reflecting on the experience, the actress added humorously that getting pregnant after the procedure would feel miraculous.

“I’ve always said to myself that after tying my tubes, if I get pregnant, I will feel like Mary, it’s a holy child,” she said.

Shaffy Bello remains one of Nollywood’s most respected actresses, with a career spanning decades across film, television, and stage.
