Frontline human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already lost the 2027 presidential election.
Yesufu made the statement on Thursday while appearing on the political programme Politics Today on Channels Television.
According to her, the President’s effort to align with state governors is aimed at creating an illusion of political strength.
“Bola Tinubu has already lost; that’s why he is looking for governors that he’d put together to have an illusion of power,” she said.
Yesufu further argued that having the support of many governors does not necessarily guarantee electoral victory, citing past political developments in Nigeria.
“Once upon a time, I think Peoples Democratic Party had 20-something governors; it didn’t stop them from losing the election when it was time for them to lose,” she added.
She also suggested that the ruling party lacks grassroots support, claiming that public response to recent registration activities was low.
“The fact that they don’t have the people—you could see it when they were doing the registration and nobody was interested, nobody cared to visit their website,” Yesufu said.
The activist, however, pointed to growing enthusiasm around the African Democratic Congress, stating that the party has attracted significant public interest and support.
