“I Would Rather Die Than Betray Him” — Yobe Governor Buni Pledges Loyalty to Gaidam

Yobe Governor Buni Pledges Loyalty to Gaidam

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has declared unwavering loyalty to his political mentor, Ibrahim Gaidam, saying he would rather die than betray the former governor.

Buni made the statement on Tuesday while addressing delegates following the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress held in Damaturu.

“I would rather die than betray him. I remain grateful for the role he played in my political journey. I will never forget where I am coming from, and I will never turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me,” Buni said.

The governor described his political journey as one built on trust and loyalty, stressing that betrayal has never been part of his approach to leadership.

“I am a product of trust. I have never betrayed anybody. I always want to be remembered as someone who never betrays anybody,” he added.

Call for Unity Within APC

Buni urged newly elected APC officials in Yobe State to remain committed to their responsibilities and to uphold trust in the discharge of their duties.

He also highlighted the achievements of his administration over the past seven years, pointing to progress in sectors such as education, primary healthcare, empowerment programmes and commerce. According to him, these areas will continue to receive attention as his government moves forward.

Advice on Succession

Speaking on the future leadership of the state, Buni called on APC members to seek divine guidance in selecting the party’s next gubernatorial candidate.

He urged party members to rally behind a candidate capable of uniting the party and sustaining the policies and programmes initiated by his administration.
