Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has publicly declared his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing him as the most qualified among expected contenders.
Speaking on the KaaTruths podcast, Orji said his endorsement is based on what he sees as Tinubu’s competence, leadership style, and commitment to inclusive governance.
“I am an Igbo man. I supported Tinubu because, among the three presidential candidates, to me, he was the most qualified in terms of competence and capacity to carry out necessary reforms,” he said.
He pointed to Tinubu’s time as governor of Lagos State as a key reason for his position, highlighting what he described as a consistent effort to include people from different ethnic backgrounds in government.
“One of the things that endeared him to me was the fact that when he was governor of Lagos State, there was always an Igbo man in his cabinet,” Orji explained. “It tells you that this is somebody who believes in inclusivity, someone who believes in the Nigerian project regardless of your ethnic background.”
The actor also credited Tinubu for mentoring individuals across different ethnic lines, saying that sets him apart from other political figures.
“Among the presidential candidates, if you talk about someone who has raised people, he is the only one who has done so both within and outside his ethnic extraction,” he added.
Orji’s comments are consistent with his earlier stance. Back in 2022, before the official campaign season, he had already publicly declared support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
Tinubu went on to win the 2023 election under the All Progressives Congress and was sworn in on May 29, 2023. Since taking office, his administration has introduced major economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange system, policies that have drawn mixed reactions across the country.
With the next presidential election set for 2027, political alignments and endorsements like this are beginning to take shape early.
