Chelsea Star Mudryk Hit With Four Year Ban as Doping Case Heads to Appeal

Mykhailo Mudryk

Mykhailo Mudryk is reportedly facing a major career setback after the Football Association handed the Chelsea winger a four-year ban over an anti-doping case that has been hanging over his future for months.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the reported suspension follows Mudryk’s long-running case, in which he was provisionally suspended in December 2024 after a positive test for a banned substance.

The winger has not featured for Chelsea FC since the suspension, with uncertainty around his future growing in the months that followed.

In a move that signaled how serious the situation had become, Chelsea reassigned his number 10 shirt to Cole Palmer in June 2025, a development many saw as symbolic of Mudryk’s uncertain standing at the club.

He was later formally charged for breaching anti-doping regulations, and the latest reports now suggest a four-year suspension has been imposed.

If upheld, the ban would represent a significant blow for a player once considered one of Europe’s brightest young attacking talents.

However, the matter is far from concluded.

The case has now moved to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after Mudryk reportedly filed an appeal in February 2026. Written submissions have been made by both parties, although a hearing date has yet to be announced.

That appeal could prove decisive in determining whether the reported sanction stands, is reduced, or overturned.

The uncertainty also raises fresh questions about Chelsea’s long-term plans for the player, with reports suggesting the club could consider a mutual termination of his contract, depending on how the legal process unfolds.

Mudryk arrived at Chelsea from FC Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 in one of the club’s headline signings, agreeing to an eight-and-a-half-year contract in a deal initially worth £62 million, with add-ons reportedly taking it as high as £89 million.

His signing came with huge expectations, but the doping case has dramatically altered the trajectory of what was expected to be a defining chapter in his career.

With the appeal now looming, attention turns to CAS, where the final direction of one of football’s most closely watched disciplinary cases may be decided.
