Lizzo Opens Up About Waiting Until Grammy Win to Lose Virginity

Lizzo

Lizzo has revealed that she made a personal vow to remain a virgin until she won a Grammy Award.

Speaking during an appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, the singer shared that she did not become sexually active until her thirties.

“I was a late bloomer. I lied about it for a long time,”she said while speaking with co-hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco. “Isn’t that crazy? I wasn’t even thinking about it… I just promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy. I’m so deada*s (serious).”

The “Juice” hitmaker, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, said she eventually lost her virginity in 2020, shortly after winning her first three Grammy Awards in January that year.

“I feel a weight off of my chest right now,” the 37-year-old continued. “It was so embarrassing. I was in a friend group of girls. We were all girl-ing one night and it was like, ‘Wait, Lizzo, are you a virgin?’ I remember, it was so embarrassing. I said, ‘I love the D.’ I said that. And it held me over for a little while.”

She also reflected on her early experiences, revealing that her first kiss happened at the age of 21.

“Ya’ll have no idea. It was religious for me too. Like, when we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn’t do anything before marriage. And then, I was just so scared. Like, nobody wanted to kiss me,” she explained. “It was a New Year’s Eve thing, and he forced it on me. I was really mad and I was like, ‘My first kiss is ruined.’ I was so mad.”

The About Damn Time star has been in a relationship with Myke Wright since 2022.

Lizzo is also reported to have completed work on her fifth studio album, Love in Real Life, although an official release date has not yet been announced.
