“I Didn’t Buy Form For Vice President” — Amaechi Clears Air On ADC Presidential Ambition

Rotimi Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed growing speculation linking him to a possible vice presidential ambition, insisting that his focus remains solely on contesting for Nigeria’s presidency.

Amaechi made the clarification during an appearance on the Daily Politics programme on Trust TV, where he addressed ongoing conversations about the ADC presidential ticket race and internal party discussions ahead of the 2027 elections.

The former Rivers State governor appeared visibly irritated by rumours suggesting he could eventually settle for a vice presidential slot.

“I did not buy form to be vice president. Who are all those saying that?” Amaechi asked.

He further stressed that discussions surrounding his political ambition should remain focused on the presidency rather than speculation about a secondary role.

“Idris, the interview is about presidency. I didn’t buy form for vice president,” he stated.

“If you want to interview a vice president, I can send them in for you.”

His comments come amid increasing political realignments and coalition talks involving opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi also addressed conversations around the possibility of a consensus candidate emerging within the party, insisting that such arrangements must only happen through proper consultation and agreement among stakeholders.

“If the party wants a consensus, let’s have a meeting,” he said.

“If we agree, we do it. If we don’t, we go primary.”

The former minister remains one of Nigeria’s most influential political figures, having served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, governor of Rivers State, and later Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

His latest remarks are expected to further intensify discussions around opposition coalition politics and the growing battle for presidential tickets ahead of the next election cycle.
