“I Pray like my life depends on it” — Kiitan Bukola Opens Up On Fame, Criticism And Nollywood Pressure

Kiitan Bukola Opens Up On Fame, Criticism And Nollywood Pressure

Kiitan Bukola has opened up about the realities of fame, criticism, relationships, and survival in Nollywood, describing herself as “a popular loner” who prefers peace, privacy, and self-growth over public validation.

The actress made the revelations while speaking about her journey in the entertainment industry, reflecting on everything from typecasting and social media criticism to spirituality and financial independence.

According to Kiitan, her love for acting began long before fame came into the picture.

“I used to do stage plays when I was younger, in churches and schools, but never took it seriously until 2016,” she said.

“The passion grew and I had to put more effort into it.”

The actress explained that she intentionally chose to work in both Yoruba and English Nollywood productions because she never wanted to limit herself creatively.

“I have always been passionate about storytelling regardless of the language, so from the beginning, I never wanted to limit myself creatively,” she stated.

Kiitan also identified her role in Oba Adekitan as one of the most important projects of her career so far, describing the performance as exceptional and personally defining.

Speaking further about the industry, she admitted that typecasting remains a real issue in Nollywood, especially for actresses.

However, she revealed that she deliberately turns down certain movie roles to avoid being boxed into repetitive characters.

“I love to be versatile and don’t want to be stereotyped,” she said.

“I reject some roles at times.”

Beyond acting, Kiitan stressed the importance of entrepreneurship and multiple streams of income, noting that fame alone cannot sustain a long-term career in entertainment.

“Acting may open doors, but building businesses and creating multiple streams of income helps sustain my career too,” she explained.

The actress also addressed criticism surrounding some of her social media content, insisting that celebrities will always be judged regardless of what they do.

“People will always criticise you no matter what you do,” she said.

“Just make sure you are doing the right thing within yourself.”

Responding to claims that some of her content can be revealing, Kiitan maintained that she refuses to allow people to define her through stereotypes.

“My content can be revealing when necessary, but not all are revealing,” she added.

On relationships, the actress avoided revisiting the controversy surrounding her past involvement with a married man, dismissing it as a closed chapter in her life.

“That’s my past. I won’t like to visit it,” she stated.

She described her ideal partner as someone who is understanding, supportive, peaceful, prayerful, and playful.

Perhaps one of the most striking parts of the interview came when Kiitan described herself as an “ambivert” who enjoys solitude despite being popular.

“I am an ambivert, no friend no enemy,” she said.

“I am a popular loner who likes to be in her own space while wishing others well too.”

The actress also reflected on the growing obsession with clout in entertainment and social media culture, saying the trend extends beyond Nollywood.

“I think the world in general now feeds on clout, not particularly Nollywood,” she stated.

“Clout is everywhere now.”

Away from fame and entertainment, Kiitan revealed that she is deeply spiritual and regularly spends time in private prayer.

“I am a prayer warrior,” she said.

“I pray like my life depends on it. I do night vigils alone most times in the house.”
