“I Just Met Davido, Why Would I Be Calling You?” — Peruzzi Opens Up on Relationship That Crashed During His Rise to Fame

Davido finally unfollows Peruzzi on Instagram over Rape Allegations

Nigerian singer and songwriter Peruzzi has opened up about one of the personal sacrifices that came with his sudden rise in the music industry, revealing how a past relationship ended shortly after his life changed following his connection with Davido.

The singer shared the story during an appearance on the talk show Lights, Camera, It’s My Turn, where he reflected on the chaotic period that followed his introduction to the Afrobeats superstar.

According to Peruzzi, the relationship fell apart after he went several days without communicating with his girlfriend, a situation he admitted was due to the excitement and overwhelming lifestyle changes around him at the time.

“I have had a relationship that did not work because I did not text back for like three days,” he said during the interview.

Rather than intentionally cutting himself off from everyone, Peruzzi explained that he became completely consumed by the new experiences that came with his music journey.

“I was on some things. I was not disconnecting from the world; it was just the ex. I did not text her; I was with my guys, enjoying life. First of all, I just met Davido,” he said.

The singer painted a vivid picture of how rapidly his life transformed after meeting the DMW boss, describing nonstop travel and exposure to experiences he had never imagined before entering the mainstream music scene.

“Imagine this, you just met Davido, you met him today, and tomorrow you are on a flight to Dubai. The following day, a flight to Lebanon. I do not understand. I am calling whom?” he added jokingly.

His comments immediately sparked debate online, with many fans questioning whether fame and sudden success naturally strain relationships, especially during the early stages of an artist’s breakthrough.

Peruzzi, however, admitted that his emotional investment in the relationship may not have been deep enough at the time to make him prioritise communication despite his changing lifestyle.

“She was not going to die. Of course, I think to be honest, if it were somebody I was really in love with at that time, it might have been different,” he said candidly.

The singer’s honesty has resonated with many listeners who see his story as a reflection of the challenges that often accompany rapid success in the entertainment industry.

Over the years, Peruzzi has become one of the notable voices associated with Davido Music Worldwide, contributing as both a performing artist and songwriter to several major projects within and outside the label.

Known for his melodic songwriting and hit collaborations, Peruzzi played a key role in shaping parts of Davido’s catalogue while also building his own fan base through songs that blend Afrobeats, pop, and emotional storytelling.

His latest revelation also offers fans a more personal look into the realities behind celebrity lifestyles that often appear glamorous from the outside. While fame, travel, and exposure may seem exciting, the fast-paced nature of the entertainment industry can sometimes come at the expense of personal relationships and emotional stability.

As clips from the interview continue circulating online, many fans have praised Peruzzi for his honesty. In contrast, others jokingly admitted they might have reacted the same way if they suddenly found themselves flying across countries with one of Africa’s biggest music stars overnight.
