Nigerian singer Spyro has made an emotional appeal to some of the country’s biggest music stars, urging them to use their influence and massive platforms to raise awareness of the worsening insecurity affecting communities across Nigeria.
The Who’s Your Guy hitmaker specifically called on industry heavyweights, including Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Rema, and Asake, to publicly lend their voices to conversations about the country’s growing security challenges.
His plea comes amid increasing public concern over reports of kidnappings, attacks on communities, and the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in different parts of the country.
In a heartfelt message shared online, Spyro argued that influential public figures have the power to amplify important national issues and raise greater awareness of victims’ suffering.
“I’m begging you Wizkid, a tweet we go a long way. I’m begging you Burna Boy, I’m begging you Davido, I’m begging every influential person,” he said.
“I’m begging, can’t just be business as usual. I’m begging you.”
The singer’s appeal reflects growing calls from citizens who believe that celebrities and public figures should be more vocal about issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
Many social media users have increasingly urged entertainers, athletes, religious leaders, and influencers to use their platforms not only for entertainment and promotion but also to raise awareness of pressing national concerns.
Spyro’s latest comments follow another recent statement in which he criticised some prominent religious leaders for what he described as a lack of public engagement on the country’s security situation.
At the time, he questioned whether influential voices across different sectors were doing enough to draw attention to the challenges facing affected communities.
His latest appeal expands that conversation to the entertainment industry, where artists like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Rema, and Asake collectively command hundreds of millions of followers worldwide.
The singer argues that even a single post from such influential figures could help keep public attention focused on victims and increase pressure for action.
In recent weeks, concerns about insecurity have become a major topic of discussion among celebrities, activists, politicians, and members of the public.
Several public figures, including actors and media personalities, have used their platforms to express concern over attacks, kidnappings, and violence affecting different regions of the country.
Spyro believes more voices are needed.
His message was particularly centred on children, teachers, and families affected by insecurity, emphasising that the issue should transcend politics and become a collective concern for all Nigerians.
While none of the artists mentioned in his appeal have publicly responded to his comments, the statement has already sparked debate online, with some supporting his call for celebrity activism and others arguing that entertainers should be free to decide how and when they engage in political or social issues.
Regardless of where people stand on that debate, Spyro’s message underscores a growing sentiment among many Nigerians that influential voices can play an important role in shaping national conversations.
For the singer, remaining silent while communities continue to suffer is no longer an option.
His message was simple and direct: with so many lives affected by insecurity, even a tweet from the country’s biggest stars could make a difference.
