“The manner of counting was highly questionable” – Yusuf Buhari Sweeps APC Primary In Katsina As Rival Rejects Result

Yusuf Buhari Enters Politics, Declares House of Reps Bid for 2027

Yusuf Buhari has officially emerged as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Daura, Sandamu, and Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State after recording a massive victory in the party’s primary election.

The result, announced on Saturday in Daura, marks a major political step for the son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari as he prepares to contest in the 2027 general elections.

According to Lawal Garba, chairman of the APC primary election committee for the constituency, Yusuf Buhari secured an overwhelming 17,342 votes to defeat his rival Auwalu Daura, who polled 480 votes.

The victory immediately sparked conversations across political circles and social media, with many viewing it as the formal beginning of Yusuf Buhari’s active political journey.

Speaking shortly after the announcement, Yusuf Buhari thanked party members, delegates, and supporters across the constituency for backing his candidacy.

“I will embrace everyone and carry all party members along to ensure that APC emerges victorious in the general elections,” he said.

“I sincerely thank the people of Daura, Sandamu and Mai’adua for coming out in large numbers to support me.”

He also stated that, if elected to the House of Representatives, the mandate should translate into better representation and development for the constituency.

However, the primary election result has already sparked controversy within the party, with the defeated aspirant, Auwalu Daura, openly rejecting the outcome.

Daura, the son of former Department of State Services Director General Lawal Daura, alleged that the election process was marred by irregularities and failed to comply with the APC guidelines.

“I am not satisfied with what happened today,” he said.

“Evidence is everywhere showing the injustice that was done.”

He further questioned the credibility of the vote-counting process, claiming that many individuals involved allegedly did not possess valid party membership cards.

“The manner of counting was highly questionable, and most of the people counted did not even have party membership cards,” Daura alleged.

The dispute now adds another layer of tension to what is already shaping up to be an intense political season ahead of the 2027 elections.

Yusuf Buhari’s emergence is particularly significant given the Buhari family’s strong political influence in Katsina State and across northern Nigeria.

Daura, the hometown of the late former president, has long remained one of the APC’s strongest political strongholds.

With the primary now concluded, attention is expected to shift toward whether aggrieved party members will challenge the outcome internally or eventually rally behind Yusuf Buhari ahead of the general election.

For now, however, the APC candidate appears determined to consolidate support across the constituency as preparations for the 2027 polls gradually intensify.
