“I Have Many People We Shall Call Out” — Iyabo Obasanjo Returns to PDP Days After Leaving APC

Obasanjo's Daughter Quits APC

Former senator representing Ogun Central, Iyabo Obasanjo, has officially returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), barely a week after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo made her return known on Monday during the unveiling of the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where she received a warm welcome from party members and supporters.

Her return marks another significant development in Ogun State’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Ogun State Commissioner for Health, who recently returned from the United States, expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances of reclaiming power in the state and openly declared her support for the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu.

While addressing party members, Iyabo Obasanjo hinted that she has unresolved issues and grievances she intends to speak about at a later date.

“I actually have a lot to say, there are many people that we shall call out, but I won’t say anything now until you organise that official welcome back into the party.

“However, I want to greet our deputy governorship candidate. I am convinced that you will be our next deputy governor.

“I want to thank our incoming governor from 2027, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, because he has really tried to become the governor of the state for the first, second and third time.

“But this time, God is saying that he will be our next governor now that I am joining the party,” she said.

Her return to the PDP comes shortly after she announced her resignation from the APC, citing persistent marginalisation, unfair treatment, and a lack of respect from the party’s leadership in Ogun State.

In her resignation letter, she criticised the process that produced Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the APC’s governorship candidate, stating that she and her supporters were sidelined despite her willingness to abide by the party’s consensus arrangement.

Her famous remark, “When disrespect is the only dish served, one should leave the table,” became a major talking point following her departure from the ruling party.

With her re-entry into the PDP, political observers are expected to closely watch her role in the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

The development also strengthens the PDP’s campaign efforts as the opposition party seeks to challenge the APC’s dominance in the state.

For Iyabo Obasanjo, the move signals a return to a familiar political platform and a renewed commitment to the party’s ambition of taking over the Ogun State Government in 2027.
