“Have We Become This Numb?” — Mary Njoku Laments Ongoing Insecurity and Oyo School Abduction

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has expressed deep frustration and heartbreak over the absence of positive updates regarding the abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, while also raising concerns about the worsening state of insecurity across Nigeria.

In a heartfelt statement shared online, the actress questioned how the nation had reached a point where reports of kidnappings, killings, and violent attacks had become so frequent that many people appeared to have grown desensitized to them.

Mary Njoku said she woke up overwhelmed with anger and sadness over the uncertainty surrounding the fate of the victims.

“Woke up this morning angry. Angry, heartbroken, and deeply unsettled.

Are we really saying that these kidnapped children are just… gone?

Are we saying that nothing more can be done? That innocent children and toddlers can vanish, and somehow the rest of us are expected to carry on as though nothing happened?

Have we become so numb to the endless reports of bandits, kidnappings, and insecurity in Nigeria that they barely move us anymore? Is this what we’ve accepted as normal?” she wrote.

The actress stressed that the Oyo incident is only one example of the broader security challenges confronting the country, as many communities continue to experience repeated cases of abduction, attacks, and loss of lives.

Her comments reflect the growing anxiety among Nigerians who have continued to demand stronger action from authorities to tackle insecurity and ensure the safe return of victims held by criminal groups.

Families of the abducted students and teachers remain in distress as they await clear updates on rescue efforts and the fate of their loved ones.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions from citizens, celebrities, and advocacy groups, many of whom have called for urgent and sustained measures to address the country’s security crisis.

Mary Njoku’s remarks add to the growing voices demanding accountability, improved security measures, and a renewed commitment to protecting lives across Nigeria.

As uncertainty remains over the victims’ whereabouts, many Nigerians continue to hope for their safe return and a lasting solution to the recurring insecurity affecting communities across the nation.
