MultiChoice is offering former Showmax subscribers in Kenya access to DStv Stream Compact at a heavily discounted rate as the pay television giant moves to retain customers following the shutdown of Showmax in April.
Under the new offer, eligible former Showmax subscribers will pay KES 550 per month, approximately $4.25, for 12 months. After the promotional period expires, the subscription will revert to the standard monthly fee of KES 4,200.
The initiative is part of MultiChoice’s broader strategy to migrate streaming customers into its DStv ecosystem after officially discontinuing Showmax on April 30.
By integrating streaming and traditional television services into a single platform, the company hopes to keep users engaged while gradually introducing them to its premium subscription packages.
The transition process began in May when qualifying customers were granted complimentary access to DStv Stream Compact until the end of the month before being moved to the discounted plan.
According to the company, the offer is available to direct Showmax subscribers, including users of Showmax Premier League, provided they maintain active subscriptions and keep their accounts in good standing.
Existing DStv subscribers are not eligible for the promotion because they already have access to Showmax content through their current packages.
The discounted package gives former Showmax users access to a wider range of entertainment options, including live television channels, movies, series, and sports programming available through SuperSport.
Speaking on the transition, MultiChoice Kenya Managing Director, Nzola Miranda, said the company wants to ensure customers continue enjoying the content they love despite the platform changes.
“Our priority is to ensure customers continue to have a home for the stories they love,” Miranda said.
The move follows significant changes within MultiChoice’s business after Canal+ acquired the broadcaster.
Showmax, which had become MultiChoice’s flagship streaming platform in recent years, has now been integrated into DStv Stream as part of efforts to streamline content delivery across its platforms.
Several popular original Kenyan productions previously available on Showmax, including Single Kiasi and Adulting, are now accessible via a dedicated Showmax section in the DStv Stream app.
Sports fans are also expected to benefit from the migration.
While Showmax Premier League subscribers could previously access matches only on mobile devices, DStv Stream users can now watch Premier League games and other SuperSport content across smart TVs and a wider range of connected devices.
To access the service, former Showmax customers must create new DStv Stream accounts, as subscriptions were not automatically transferred during the migration.
MultiChoice also confirmed that customers who chose not to move to DStv Stream were eligible for refunds covering any unused portions of their Showmax subscriptions.
The discounted offer highlights the growing competition in Africa’s streaming market, where operators are increasingly seeking ways to retain subscribers amid rising costs and shifting consumer viewing habits.
For MultiChoice, the promotion represents an opportunity to preserve its streaming customer base while strengthening adoption of DStv Stream as its primary digital entertainment platform in the post-Showmax era.
