Social media platform X has rolled out a new feature called “React With Video,” giving users a more interactive way to respond to posts and further signalling the company’s growing focus on video content and creator engagement.
The feature allows users to record and publish video responses directly from their timelines, transforming traditional text-based interactions into more dynamic and visually engaging conversations.
The announcement was made by X engineer Michael Bier, who described the update as part of the platform’s broader effort to enhance commentary and content creation.
“Commentary is one of the most important pillars of X. And sometimes the best way to share your thoughts is with video,” Bier wrote on the platform.
“Today we’re launching a whole new way to make them: React with Video. Tap the repost button and start recording with green screen, split screen, or picture in picture. Now available on iOS.”
The new tool is integrated directly into X’s repost menu, allowing users to quickly create video reactions without leaving the app.
Once activated, creators can choose from several editing formats designed to make interactions more engaging.
Among the available options are split-screen mode, which places the reaction video alongside the original post, picture-in-picture mode, and green-screen functionality that allows users to place themselves over content while sharing their thoughts.
The feature bears a strong resemblance to engagement formats that have become popular on platforms such as TikTok, where reaction videos, duets, and commentary clips have become major drivers of user engagement.
By introducing similar functionality, X appears to be accelerating its transformation from a microblogging platform into a broader multimedia ecosystem centred on creators and video-based interactions.
The launch arrives as competition among social media platforms intensifies.
With short-form video dominating online engagement, companies are increasingly introducing creator tools designed to keep users active and attract new audiences.
For X, the strategy aligns with owner Elon Musk’s vision of evolving the platform beyond traditional social networking into a comprehensive content and communication hub.
The latest update is part of a series of major changes introduced since Musk acquired the company.
In 2022, X launched its highly anticipated Edit Tweet feature after years of user requests. The tool allows users to modify posts within a limited window after publication, making it easier to correct mistakes or add missing information without deleting and reposting content.
Later that same year, the platform introduced paid verification through its subscription service, enabling users to obtain the blue verification badge via a monthly payment model rather than the previous invitation-based system.
Those changes marked the beginning of a broader effort to diversify revenue streams while expanding platform functionality.
The introduction of React With Video continues that strategy and could prove particularly attractive to creators, influencers, journalists, and commentators who rely on audience interaction to grow their reach.
Industry analysts note that video content has become one of the most valuable forms of engagement across social platforms, often generating significantly higher interaction rates than text-only posts.
By making video reactions easier to create and share, X is positioning itself to compete more aggressively for creators who might otherwise focus their efforts on rival platforms.
For users, the update introduces a new way to participate in conversations, offering richer context and more personality than traditional replies.
As social media increasingly shifts toward video-first experiences, React With Video represents another step in X’s ongoing evolution from a text-driven platform into a destination for multimedia content, creator expression, and real-time digital conversations.
