Google is bringing its AI-powered desktop assistant, Gemini Spark, to macOS, marking a major expansion of the company’s push to make artificial intelligence a bigger part of users’ everyday digital workflows.

The move allows Mac users to access Google’s AI agent directly from their desktops, where it can organize files, assist with productivity tasks and connect with a growing list of third-party applications.

The latest update also introduces several new features, including real-time topic tracking and deeper integrations with popular Google services like Google Tasks and Google Keep.

Announcing the rollout on Wednesday, Google confirmed that Gemini Spark is now available through the existing Gemini desktop app for macOS.

The launch puts Google’s AI assistant in more direct competition with desktop AI tools such as Claude Desktop, Microsoft Copilot and other AI-powered productivity platforms.

Unlike a traditional chatbot, Gemini Spark is designed to serve as an intelligent assistant that interacts with files on a user’s computer to complete everyday tasks.

One of the biggest improvements is Spark’s ability to work with files saved on a Mac.

Users can ask the AI assistant to organize documents or use files already stored on their computer as the foundation for creating new Google Docs or Google Sheets projects.

For example, Google says Spark can automatically convert a folder of invoices into a budgeting spreadsheet, helping users save time on repetitive tasks.

The company also revealed that support for Google Keep and Google Tasks has now been added following user feedback.

The integration means users can manage notes, reminders and to-do lists directly through the AI assistant without relying solely on Google Docs.

Beyond Google’s own ecosystem, Gemini Spark is also expanding its compatibility with several popular third-party services.

The AI agent now works with platforms including:

  • Canva
  • Dropbox
  • Instacart
  • OpenTable
  • Zillow Rentals

These integrations allow users to perform a wide range of tasks through simple prompts, such as designing marketing materials in Canva, ordering groceries via Instacart, booking restaurant reservations on OpenTable or scheduling apartment tours through Zillow Rentals.

Google says even more functionality is on the way.

In a future update, users will be able to assign multi-step tasks to Gemini Spark from their smartphones.

For instance, someone could ask Spark on their phone to retrieve information from a document stored on their Mac and use it to automatically complete another task.

Although that feature is not available yet, Google says it will arrive in a future release.

At launch, Gemini Spark for macOS is available in beta and is currently limited to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States.

The expansion reflects Google’s broader strategy to position Gemini as more than just an AI chatbot, transforming it into a full-featured digital assistant capable of managing files, automating workflows and helping users accomplish everyday tasks across multiple apps and devices.
