On Monday, Channels Television learned that Justice Tanko Muhammad, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, has resigned.
According to sources speaking to Channels Television, Justice Muhammad announced his resignation on Sunday night and gave his decision the excuse of being ill.
Arrangements are reportedly being made to appoint Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the next-highest ranking justice on the Supreme Court, as interim Chief Justice of Nigeria.
There will soon be a formal statement, according to reports.
Reports indicated that Justice Muhammad was gravely unwell prior to his resignation.
In a letter sent to him just last week, 14 Supreme Court justices bemoaned the deteriorating conditions in the highest court.
