According to the Ogun State Police Command, Nigerian actor and movie director, Azeez Ololade Ijaduade, was hit in the neck by an ammunition shell, not a bullet.
The news of the incident spread on social media after a colleague of the victim, Abiodun Adebanjo, posted about it on Instagram.
The post read, “Please, we need help in Iperu. My director, Azeez Ijaduade, @kingzeez1, was shot by a Nigeria Police personnel.
“He is presently at Babcock University Teaching Hospital. Anybody with the contacts of the Police IG or Commissioner should reach out.”
The police in the state have faced criticism for their alleged lack of professionalism.
The spokesperson for the state command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement, stating that a bullet shell had hit the actor.
“During the Bramaj Company end-of-year party in a hotel, a mobile policeman attached to the Chinese expatriate expended a shot into the air, and unfortunately, the ammunition shell hit one “Azeez Ololade Ijaduade“ an actor, on the neck,” Odutola said.
“He was rushed to hospital in Ilishan and he is in a very stable condition,” she said.
Odutola also mentioned that the officer responsible had been arrested and an investigation had begun.
