Bernard Sang from Kenya emerged as the winner of the Access Bank 2024 Lagos City Marathon, beating around 80 other top marathoners.
He completed the 42km race in 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 49 seconds, earning the grand prize of $50,000 (N72.48 million).
Simon Cheprot and Edwin Kiptoo, also from Kenya, secured the second and third positions, with each winning $40,000 and $30,000, respectively.
Sang had previously finished third in the 2023 edition. Ethiopia’s Kebene Chala, a 25-year-old woman, was the first female runner to cross the finish line, and she too claimed the $50,000 prize.
Both the men’s and women’s winners qualified for the marathon event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Shehu Muazu was the first Nigerian runner to finish and received a cash prize of N1 million.
The race commenced at the National Stadium in Surulere and concluded at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.
