Roy Hodgson resigned as manager of struggling Premier League club Crystal Palace on Monday, shortly before their important match against relegation contenders Everton.
The former England coach had faced criticism from Crystal Palace supporters as the team continued to struggle near the bottom of the table.
Hodgson, who is 76 years old, was hospitalized for tests on Thursday after becoming ill.
“I understand, given recent circumstances, it may be prudent at this time for the club to plan ahead, and therefore I have taken the decision to step aside so that the club can bring forward their plans for a new manager, as intended for this summer,” Hodgson said.
